Everything you need to know!

Pre and post natal exercise is a topic which is getting more and more airtime in a world where it is becoming increasingly popular for women to want to continue exercise throughout pregnancy and post birth, as a result of increased research proving that it is not just safe, but hugely beneficial, too. This is a hugely rewarding area to work in, being able to support a mother throughout their pregnancy and then getting back to full fitness afterwards.

Frame has a huge amount of experience and expertise in pre- and post-natal exercise, and its founders, Joan Murphy and Pip Black, have also set up MumHood to educate and motivate pregnant ladies and mums to stay fit and active. We have a unique and up-to-date approach to pre and post-natal education, concentrating on what you CAN do, rather than just what you need to stop/modify.

We also like to look at pre and post-natal in an integrated way; looking at a topic such as the Pelvic Floor, and then considering the changes around this that will affect the client throughout pregnancy and post birth, and how this links back to the exercises that they should or shouldn’t be participating in. We understand that it can be extremely hard to understand the changes that a woman's body goes through when pregnant and post birth if you haven’t been there yourself, so we use an interactive style of teaching to make the content both accessible and practical.

Perhaps you’re a Personal Trainer who would like to be able to expand your client base by taking on new clients who are either pregnant or post-natal? Or perhaps your current clients are starting to have families and you’d like to stay with them throughout this journey? Or maybe you’re a fitness instructor who would like to be able to gain a deeper understanding of the changes to the body during pregnancy and postnatally so you can better modify your classes to meet the needs of pregnant and post-natal customers, or even start to teach pregnancy or postnatal specific classes at Frame, or elsewhere…

Post-natal work is specifically good for those trainers who are looking to take on more off-peak clients/classes as they tend to train outside of peak hours when off on maternity leave.

Absolutely, our Pre and Post Natal teachers at Frame come from a wide variety of backgrounds and ages.

Each of these areas will be covered from both a prenatal and postnatal perspective, with practical examples of which exercises are beneficial and which should be avoided in relation to each.

The aim of the course is to make sure that you come out of it fully confident to work with pre and postnatal clients, ensuring that you feel confident in modifying exercises and creating specific exercise programmes.

The course includes:

Benefits of physical activities
Physical and biological changes pre and post
Musculoskeletal system
Posture (Balance)
Hormones (Relaxin and insulin)
Weight gain (Guidelines)
Ab separation
Pelvic floor
Programme design for individual clients

The course is fully accredited through Active IQ, the leading UK awarding body for the active leisure, learning and wellbeing sector. More information can be found here.

This is a nationally recognised qualification which will enable learners to work at studios, gyms, leisure centres or anywhere else that holds pre and post natal fitness classes. It will enable graduates to teach specific pregnancy and post natal specific classes at Frame or elsewhere, and expand your client base if already qualified as a Personal Trainer.

Successful graduates will be qualified to teach Frame's full range of pre and post natal classes: MumHood Post-Natal Fitness, MumHood Post-Natal HIIT, MumHood Post-Natal Tums, MumHood Pre-Natal Fitness.

There will be an opportunity for every graduate to trial for a place on the Frame timetable.

In difficult circumstances e.g. injury, the Frame Academy administration team and course tutors will try to be as flexible as possible and support you to work out the best way forward. Subject to prior consultation with the course tutors and a fully qualified medical practitioner, if you suffer an injury you may come to sessions and adjust the poses to suit your condition or observe as is appropriate.

Our intention always is to try to find ways of helping students complete the training on the intake originally applied for. However, we understand that there may be some instances where it is not possible to continue and a deferral to another intake may be necessary.

We will do our utmost to help all students who may be experiencing difficulties either with the training or in other areas of their life, to be able to complete the teacher training programme. However, we understand that in some circumstances this is not possible and students have no choice other than to leave the programme.

In the unfortunate case that this were to happen, we will be unable to graduate you from the training and your course fees for the remainder of the training are still due unless an exemption applies.

Frame Academy students will benefit from tutor support before, during and after the course and 8 class credits to access Frame's range of pre & post natal classes to enhance their learning & understanding.
